Strandhotel

We spend a couple of days here on a short family break and had very mixed feelings about this hotel. Honestly it was a bit a struggle to write a fair review, and I think it’s because we expected a bit more for the price we paid (220 euro per night). We booked the family room for 3 persons, which has its own entrance on the ground floor and indeed has sea view, but also street view with cars and people passing by all the time. The windows have protected foil on them, so normally outsiders can’t look in, but be warned … in the evening they can. We even had a grumpy neighbour letting out his dog and pissing to our window. It also means that you have to go outside to go take the main entrance to have breakfast. Breakfast was at best mediocre and lacking passion to offer some kind of experience. The room is sufficient furnished, but soul less. Same for the bedrooms, where the beds are really ready for a replacement after an intense life. We had a problem with cleaning in one of the rooms, which was dealt with professionally, but it shouldn’t really happen to be honest. The building is one of the only original building left in an another wise very mixed environment. On one hand you have the sea, but Scheveningen is one of those coastal places where mass tourism destroyed its charm. All a bit past glory. The hotel tries to keep it up, it’s clean and the reception area is traditionally furnished. Are you in for a week with your family, beach side and you don’t care too much for the actual hotel experience this is probably a nice option for you. If you expect a bit more luxury and experience for 220+ euros per night like us, then I can’t recommend this hotel.

The hotel is at a very convenient point to go to the beach and there are bus and tram lines to get you at the city centre in 15 minutes. The personnel were very polite. The breakfast was ok, it had a variety of choices. The only bad thing was that the room did not have an air-condition or another cooling system, and as the weather was extremely hot (30 degrees) the room was too hot as well, even at night.

We have stayed at the Strandhotel multiple times. It was good to return after the pandemic interrupted our yearly return to Scheveningen. The hotel is conveniently located to public transportation if you do not have a vehicle. A short 3 minute walk from the tram/bus stop and you have arrived. We love the Strandhotel for it's location, wonderful staff, best breakfast ever, beautiful views, and the cost of the rooms. Need assistance? Have a question? Need a suggestion? The staff is always available to provide you whatever assistance you need. From the moment you walk through the door, they make you feel welcome. Certainly there are other hotels to choose from in this beautiful beach town but, we will always opt for the Strandhotel which treats all of the guests like family members 🧡
